You Could Have Made a Deal, Trump Tells Ukraine After US-Russia Talks

Washington, D.C. – Former U.S. President Donald Trump has once again stirred international debate by suggesting that Ukraine could have negotiated a deal with Russia before the full-scale invasion escalated. His remarks came in the wake of renewed discussions between U.S. and Russian officials on the ongoing war in Ukraine.

Speaking at a political rally, Trump criticized the handling of the conflict and claimed that under his administration, Ukraine and Russia would have reached an agreement that could have prevented the devastation. “They could have made a deal,” Trump stated. “It would have been a much better outcome for them.”

His comments come at a time when the Biden administration continues to pledge support for Ukraine, with billions in military aid already supplied. The latest talks between U.S. and Russian officials were reportedly focused on de-escalation measures, though no substantial breakthroughs were announced.

Trump has previously touted his diplomatic skills, arguing that his relationships with world leaders, including Russian President Vladimir Putin, could have averted the conflict. Critics, however, argue that any deal under Trump might have come at the expense of Ukraine’s sovereignty.

Ukrainian officials swiftly rejected Trump’s remarks, asserting that their resistance against Russian aggression is a fight for national survival. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s administration reaffirmed that any negotiation would have to be on Kyiv’s terms, emphasizing territorial integrity and sovereignty.

Meanwhile, U.S. lawmakers remain divided on support for Ukraine. While some Republicans echo Trump’s sentiment that the conflict should have been handled differently, many others continue to support Ukraine in its efforts to repel Russian forces.

As the war drags on, Trump’s comments add another layer of controversy to an already complex geopolitical crisis, raising questions about what U.S. foreign policy might look like should he return to office in the upcoming election cycle.
