Islamabad, Pakistan – Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Syed Asim Munir, has issued a strong warning to terrorist groups operating in the country, declaring that there will be “no mercy until terrorists surrender.” His statement comes in the wake of rising militant attacks, particularly in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan regions.
A Strong Message to Terrorists
Addressing a high-level security meeting at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi, General Munir reiterated the military’s zero-tolerance policy against terrorism. He assured that Pakistan’s armed forces remain fully committed to eliminating all militant elements and restoring peace across the nation.
“Pakistan will not allow any group to challenge its sovereignty. Our forces are fully prepared to eradicate terrorism in all its forms. There will be no leniency for those who threaten the security of our people,” said the army chief.
Surge in Terrorist Attacks
Pakistan has witnessed a resurgence in terrorist activities over the past year, with multiple deadly attacks targeting security forces and civilians. The most recent suicide bombing in Dera Ismail Khan claimed the lives of six soldiers, while an ambush in Balochistan led to the martyrdom of four police officers.
The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and other militant factions have intensified their assaults, prompting the military to launch large-scale operations in tribal areas and border regions. Security forces have conducted dozens of intelligence-based operations (IBOs), neutralizing high-profile militants and dismantling their networks.
Nationwide Crackdown on Militants
The Pakistan Army, in coordination with law enforcement agencies (LEAs) and intelligence services, has ramped up counter-terrorism operations across the country. Operation Azm-e-Istehkam, launched last year, has resulted in the arrest or elimination of over 500 terrorists, with several militant hideouts destroyed.
“Our martyrs have sacrificed their lives for Pakistan’s peace and stability. We will not allow their sacrifices to go in vain. The entire nation stands with its armed forces in this fight against terrorism,” said General Munir.
Government’s Counterterrorism Strategy
The military’s renewed offensive aligns with Pakistan’s National Action Plan (NAP) against terrorism, which has been revised and strengthened following recent attacks. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has also expressed his full support for the armed forces, emphasizing that Pakistan will not bow to external or internal threats.
Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah confirmed that intelligence-sharing and border security measures have been enhanced to prevent cross-border infiltration. Pakistan has repeatedly called on Afghanistan’s Taliban-led government to take action against TTP safe havens, warning that failure to do so could strain bilateral relations.
Public and International Support
Pakistan’s security forces have received widespread support from the public, with citizens backing the army’s efforts to eradicate terrorism. Meanwhile, international partners, including China and the United States, have expressed solidarity with Pakistan’s counterterrorism measures.
Experts believe that a long-term approach, including both military action and socio-economic reforms, is necessary to ensure sustainable peace. However, with ongoing threats from extremist elements, Pakistan’s security forces remain on high alert, determined to crush terrorism once and for all.
As operations continue, General Munir’s message remains clear: Pakistan will show “no mercy” to those who threaten national security, and the fight against terrorism will persist until every last terrorist surrenders or is eliminated.
