February 20, 2025 – The Israeli military has confirmed that the body returned from Gaza is not that of Shiri Bibas, the mother of two redheaded children whose abduction by Hamas on October 7 became a symbol of the ongoing hostage crisis.
Israeli authorities had initially received a body from Gaza under the assumption that it belonged to one of the hostages taken during the deadly attack. However, after forensic examinations, the military clarified that the remains do not belong to Bibas. The identity of the body remains undisclosed as further investigations continue.
Shiri Bibas, along with her husband Yarden and their two young children, Ariel and Kfir, was taken hostage by Hamas militants during the October 7 assault on Israel. The family’s plight has drawn global attention, with images of the young boys circulating widely as calls for their release intensified.
The Israeli government has been working through diplomatic and military channels to secure the release of remaining hostages. According to Israeli officials, negotiations mediated by Egypt and Qatar are ongoing, but no breakthroughs have been reported regarding the Bibas family’s fate.
Hamas has claimed that several hostages, including members of the Bibas family, were killed in Israeli airstrikes, though these statements remain unverified.
Israeli authorities continue to pressure Hamas to provide information about the hostages and their conditions. Meanwhile, families of those still held captive are urging the government to prioritize negotiations for their safe return.
The return of the unidentified body has added to the uncertainty surrounding the fate of Shiri Bibas and her children, deepening the anguish of their loved ones and supporters.
