Peshawar, Pakistan – March 1, 2025 – A devastating suicide bombing at an Islamic seminary in northwest Pakistan has left six people dead, including a prominent Taliban-linked cleric. The attack, which occurred in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province near the Afghan border, has sparked concerns about escalating violence in the region.
Authorities confirmed that the explosion targeted the seminary during a religious gathering, killing Maulana Ahmadullah, a well-known cleric with ties to the Afghan Taliban. Several others were injured, some in critical condition, as security forces cordoned off the area and launched an investigation into the incident.
No group has immediately claimed responsibility for the bombing, but suspicion has fallen on local militant factions that have previously carried out similar attacks. The region has been a hotbed of insurgency, with various militant groups, including Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), operating along the porous Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
Eyewitnesses described a chaotic scene, with the blast causing significant damage to the seminary building. “There was a loud explosion, and then everything was covered in dust and smoke. People were running in every direction,” said one survivor.
Pakistani security officials have vowed swift action against those responsible. “This is an act of terrorism aimed at destabilizing our country. We will not allow such attacks to shake our resolve,” said a senior police officer in Peshawar.
The attack has raised fresh security concerns as Pakistan continues to grapple with insurgent threats. Analysts believe the bombing could further strain Pakistan’s efforts to maintain stability, particularly as tensions rise between different militant factions.
International reactions have started pouring in, with neighboring Afghanistan expressing concern over the incident. The Afghan Taliban government, which has historical links with clerics in Pakistan, has yet to issue an official statement.
The Pakistani government has urged religious leaders and communities to remain vigilant while reinforcing security measures at mosques and seminaries across the country. As the investigation continues, authorities are focusing on tracking down those responsible for the deadly attack.
This bombing marks one of the most significant terror incidents in Pakistan in recent months, highlighting the ongoing challenges the country faces in curbing extremism and maintaining peace in its volatile border regions.
