The Pakistan Navy is currently hosting the 9th Multinational Maritime Exercise AMAN-25, marking the largest iteration of this biennial event to date. The exercise, held from February 7 to 11, 2025, in Karachi and the North Arabian Sea, has attracted participation from over 60 countries, including naval assets from China, Saudi Arabia, the United States, Japan, Türkiye, Russia, and African Union nations. Themed “Together for Peace,” AMAN-25 emphasizes collaborative maritime security and introduces the inaugural AMAN Dialogue, a strategic conference addressing global maritime challenges.
A highlight of the exercise is the International Fleet Review (IFR), conducted approximately 80 nautical miles off the coast of Karachi. This impressive display features 31 naval vessels, including Pakistan Navy’s largest ship, the Fleet Replenishment and Combat Support Ship PNS Moawin (AOE-39). Constructed at Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works with collaboration from Türkiye, PNS Moawin serves as the central platform for dignitaries and high-ranking officials during the IFR. The ship’s advanced capabilities underscore Pakistan’s growing maritime infrastructure and its commitment to regional security.
The IFR also showcases a diverse array of naval assets, such as the TUGHRIL Class Type 054 A/P Frigates PNS Tippu Sultan and PNS Taimur, YARMOOK Batch II Class Offshore Patrol Vessels PNS Hunain and PNS Yamama, and the BABUR Class Corvette PNS Babur. Participating foreign vessels include China’s Type 052D Class Guided Missile Destroyer PLANS Baotou, the U.S. Navy’s Expeditionary Mobile Base Vessel USS Lewis B. Puller, and Japan’s Murasame Class Destroyer JS Murasame, among others. The event further features aerial displays by various aircraft and helicopters, including Pakistan Navy’s P-3C Orion Long Range Maritime Patrol Aircraft and JF-17 Thunder fighter jets from the Pakistan Air Force.
The AMAN-25 exercise underscores Pakistan’s dedication to fostering international maritime cooperation and ensuring regional stability. By bringing together a multitude of nations, the exercise aims to enhance interoperability among participating navies and promote a unified approach to combating maritime threats.
